Former Minister of Women Affairs, Uju-Ken Ohanenye, has stated she has no regrets about her actions during her brief but controversial tenure. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ohanenye emphasized her commitment to impactful governance, noting that she discharged her duties to the best of her ability.
“I had a responsibility to ensure things were done right, and I wouldn’t tolerate anyone undermining the mission entrusted to me,” she said. “I am proud of the work I did and have no regrets about my approach.”
Ohanenye’s tenure, which began in August 2023, was fraught with controversies, including her threat to sue the United Nations over alleged mismanagement of funds meant for Nigeria. She was dismissed on October 23, alongside four other ministers, two weeks after the Ministry of Women Affairs reportedly raised over ₦200 million to support vulnerable Nigerians.
Reflecting on her time in office, Ohanenye highlighted her efforts to initiate impactful programs, such as mobile courts to rescue young girls from street hawking. Despite her removal, she instructed that the donated funds be returned, explaining, “There was no way I could utilize the money after being sacked, so I asked the secretary to reverse the funds to the donors.”
